Hyundai Genesis Sedans have gotten really cheap, like stupid cheap. this 2015 model with less than 50k miles on it is about 23K. and with that you get a 5L V8, RWD, and a luxurious interior on par with most of the germans. and to top it all off you get almost 6 years/50k miles of factory backed warranty left. Why are these not all over oppo?

i mean sure you can find E550s around that price point but theyre all a few years older and a lot less reliable. i could definitely see myself rocking one of these

i was looking at them after watching Hoovies video on the new Genesis and comparing it to his old 5L Equus. but in my mind the genesis sedan, especially the 2015 model, is the best looking car Hyundai has ever made.

Because luxury sedans aren't what I need at this point in my life, although they're a solid deal.

I’d say the Kia K900 is even better. Same engine, more tech, and usually even cheaper or around the same price but with more equipment

I commented about the value for $ just this morning

I have not driven the 5.0 But I do like the 3.3t G80 sport even if it is a heavy fucker . the 3.6 was too tame for me. Good cruiser.

Not sure if I would call that design (and materials) on par with the Germans, but just my humble opinion. Those E550s are also known to be pretty solid, just keep up with the (not cheap) scheduled maintenance, by the book.

and thats the issue, the regular maintenance is going to be a considerable amount more on an E550 than a Hyundai. id actually be able to afford regular hyundai maintenance. not so much with a E550.

They’re damn good. My brother has an Equus and for the price he's paid it has been great.

I think a Lincoln MKS Ecoboost is an even better deal.
AWD, less peak HP, but a 0-60 time that is actually a little faster, also has lots of luxury, has a brand that is more luxury-oriented than ‘Hyundai’.
The Lincoln Continental is also a similarly great deal - though the one linked is a 2.7L ecoboost, not the top-performing 3L ecoboost. You trade some performance for better fuel economy.

Running costs will be more for sure, but some of the driving might be at least subjectively better, for some drivers anyway.
Oddly enough, the steering wheel and dash rub me the wrong way on that Genesis . The rest is probably huge value.

No manual, and that interior is nowhere near as nice. Its an awesome deal if you don’t care about driving experience and such, but with how many interesting cars there are in the world I can ever see myself spending tens of thousands on a hyundai

They’re heavy cars, and a little numb even compared to a Mercedes, but if you’re ok with that, they’re absolutely great values.
I ended up buying a 2014 E550, but drove the G80 Sport. Great value for the $$$, and I presume it’s very reliable. As is the E550, BTW- the BMW 550i not so much.
Thing is, the CPO E550s are basically gone now -2014 was the final year. I’m sure you can find a Genesis CPO for cheap.

lots of luxury cars dont have manuals. the E550 and the BMW 550 dont offer them anymore either.

They’re definitely a steal, though I find the interior incredibly bland no matter how nice the materials are (and I’m sure they’re very nice).

I know, but you asked why they aren’t all over oppo. The only thing really going for the car for me is that is V8 and RWD, but that alone doesn’t make a car fun. Especially because these also aren’t fun to shift on your own, the throttle and steering aren’t particulary communicative and engaging, just overall its not a very oppo car. The E550 and BMW aren’t all over here either by the way
Great car, just not something thats going to appeal to a large group of Oppos

I’ d say two reasons. First, the Oppo demographic is such that the majority of us still aren’t buying even depreciated luxury sedans, although some are. The second is what you are reading here. Even though we pride ourselves here on being better informed about cars than the general public, there is still the lingering perception that it’s too expensive for just a Hyundai and that the driving experience and interior must somehow be inferior to MB or BMW sedans of similar price (even though those cars will be older and less luxurious at the same price points).
Bias is really hard to overcome.

I’ll give you that for sure, the Genesis does look a lot better. The Kia looks okay but the Genesis is one of the best looking luxury cars available today IMO

I really don’t think it’s even bias, oppos just like more engaging cars and these cars aren’t fun to drive or particularly enthusiast oriented in any real way. RWD doesn’t necessarily make a car fun, and if you aren’t an enthusiast that’s not prob a negative anyways

That beige just ruins it. Give it a nice deep creamy tan or even black and it would be much better.

I guess I have a really broad definition of engaging. I fully understand what that means in the usual context. But for me, engaging is when my car makes me happy to be in it and driving it rather than doing something else.
I’m about to go home early to cook dinner for my girls, and a part of my brain is saying, “yippee! we get to drive the Kia some more!” even though there is nothing excit ing about my commute on the surface, and my car is definitely not a corner-carving manual.

They are great value used. While the tactile feel of the interior materials might not measure up to the German and Japanese competition, I feel that the design is better executed. Its a warm, rich, wood paneled environment with available contrast piping on the seats instead of a dark cavern of black and grey with brushed metal or gloss piano accents. Its classic and will age well.
Also, Genesis still puts an emphasis on comfort, which is what really matters if your drive to work takes place mostly on public roads and highways, instead of, say, a race track.

I totally agree you can love a car thats not necessarily a blast to drive, and these are awesome cars.
Just that we tend to be a little more eclectic and weird bunch here, whereas this is a much more safe, vanilla choice. He asked why it wasn’t more prevalent on oppo and I think thats why. I’m sure we mostly would agree they are solid cars, good deal, but that doesn’t mean most would really lust for one

Might we worth a look. 2015 was the refreshed model. Although the 2014 E550's are coming down around that price. But to your point, no warranty.
From R&T review:
Surely, though, just as in aspirational Hyundais and Kias before it, the Genesis’s chassis systems reveal the car’s second-tier status, right? Nope, not this time. With some suspension-tuning help from Lotus Engineering, the Genesis is surprisingly well balanced. The body’s motions are disciplined, displaying none of the floppiness of the Kia K900 , which sits on the current Hyundai Equus platform. Wheel-impact quality and overall ride stability are an order of magnitude better than in the first Genesis.
